Stockholm

  1. Travel
    1. Train system pretty easy to use – use google maps
    2. Stockholm Arlanda Express train is the fastest way to get to the Stockholm city center from the airport and is relatively cheap
    3. Walk! Stockholm is a super walkable city. I was there for 6 days and we walked everywhere
  2. Food
    1. Meatballs- There is a traditional meatball dish that comes with meatballs, mashed potatoes, pickles and juniberries: I never tried it because I don’t eat meatballs but it looked good from friends!
    2. In general the food was good but expensive.
    3. There is a lot of diversity in food, you can find asian food/ mediterraneoan food/ mexican food etc. pretty easily if you don’t like the more traditional Swedish/European food.
  3. Places to See
    1. ABBA museum- SO FUN! I am a true Mamma Mia! stan so this museum was a dream. It is an interactive museum where you can do karaoke and dance to ABBA. It is also just cool to see the evolution of ABBA, as they were such an impactful group to music.
    2. Skansen- Skansen is considered an “open air museum” but it is essentially a re-creation of an old town (think of Colonial Williamsburg). There are old houses, animals for viewing, food, and people who talk about what it is like to live in historical Stockholm.
    3. Gamla Stan- Also called old town. It is an island with historical architecture. It is mostly restaurants and shops. Gamla Stan is a super cute option for cafes or for a meal!
    4. Södermalm- Södermalm is where all the young people are, it is the hip part of Stockholm! This makes it the going out place for young people! A Swedish girl gave us these recs for clubbing:
      1.  Morfar Ginko, Tradgarden, Laika, Technobastun. Tradgarden seemed to be the most fun!
    5. Vasa Skeppet-  A really cool museum on a ship that sunk that they recently found.
    6. Kunstragarden- A cute garden with shops and restaurants around.
    7. Boat cruises- There are a lot of boat cruises of the archipelago. This was probably my favorite part of Sweden. It was so fun, the food was good, and the views of the archipelago were stunning!
  4. Where to stay
    1. Radisson Blu Waterfront/Viking- both are close to the city center and are reasonably priced
